CREATING A KNOWLEDGE BASE ORGANIZATION for TOTAL EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT.

Todays’ knowledge workers cannot be managed with old styles of totalitarian management. With the three cultures of workers from Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y and Gen Z, leaders must strategically mould the use of these diverse values, skills and creativity these generations possess together.

The need to build a KNOWLEDGE BASE WORKFORCE creating a KNOWLEDGE BASE ORGANISATION to COMPETE in a KNOWLEDGE BASE ECONOMY / BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
is important and vital for what I call competition using heavy arms artillery strategy in the business world of knowledge base economy.

The new workforce is about information and knowledge. The new workforce is of knowledge in various tasks, processors, ideas which would need a culture of empowerment to discuss, share and be part of growth in the organization. ENGAGING employees would not only be efficient but also effective to higher productivity. The new workforce expects greater operational autonomy, job satisfaction and status in terms of respect and recognition.

Many studies have made commitment and growth to that of ORGANIZATION CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOUR (OCB) to build the evolution of employee engagement. It is clearly a two way system, between employee(s) and employer(s), for the progress of the organization. It would be best to create a KNOWLEDGE BASE ORGANIZATION CULTURE with these strategies.

There is no short cut in the process to engage employees. It must start from the change in organization culture, from the business leader(s) to the Human Resource in creating the culture for employee engagement forming a knowledge base organization.

DEVELOPMENT DIMENSION INTERNATIONAL (DDI, 2005) has stated that manager(s) / business leader(s), must do 5 things to create a highly engage workforce.

They are:
1. Align efforts with strategy of the organization

2. Empower

3. Promote and encourage teamwork. (This is the most important element in the equation)

4. Help people grow and develop

5. Provide support, encouragement, recognition when and where appropriate.

*****Leadership must be of doing the right things****

We should go further by changing organization culture to KNOWLEDGE BASE ORGANIZATION.

CULTURE that creates EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

1. It must begin from the TOP
It must begin from the business leaders and department leaders to be committed through establishing its mission, vision and values to be employee engaged

2. Effective recruitment process.
Having not just qualification but the attributes of good working attitude such as teamwork, sharing information, mentoring and a potential growth to leadership

3. Establish a two way communication.
    Leaders must learn to listen

4. Ensure employees have the tools and information to do the task well

5. Have employees proper training, knowledge and information

6. There must be feed-forward and these must not be taken as complains or dissatisfaction

7. Encourage independent thinking.

8. Incentive has a part to play - Non financial and financial benefit (It can be even in the form of a membership in a Spa or Gym)

9. Building a KNOWLEDGE SHARING CULTURE and TEAM PLAYING CULTURE

10 Focus on growing employees to be top performers and for them to build and grow.

CREATING a KNOWLEDGE BASE ORGANIZATION CULTURE creates better EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT and benefits the growth, productivity and revenue of any organization.
